1. Although other regions of the world have their own UN economic commissions, none of them has produced such a unique and voluminous set of contributions to the field of development studies.

2. ‘RedeSist is an interdisciplinary research network focusing on Local Productive and Innovative Systems. It was set up in 1997 at the Economics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE-UFRJ), Brazil’. RedeSist has developed a unique view of local production and innovation systems: arranjos, a Latin American reinterpretation of Porter’s and others’ idea of clusters. Members associated with this network have completed over one hundred studies in diverse locations encompassing manufacturing, agriculture, services and creative and cultural industries. http://www.redesist.ie.ufrj.br/english
