ABSTRACT
Business Intelligence (BI) has become essential in dynamic organisational environments, and there is consensus that BI must evolve with changing requirements to support key organisational agility capabilities – sense and response. However, there is a critical ambiguity in conceptualising and measuring BI agility, particularly regarding the importance of human-centred factors. This ambiguity results in organisational challenges in enhancing BI agility and a lack of studies evaluating its impact on traits like organisational agility. Therefore, our study redefines the concept of BI agility and introduces a revised BI agility scale, integrating human-centred aspects with technological factors, and challenging the prevailing notion that BI agility is primarily a technological feature. Using a mixed-methods approach, beginning with an extensive literature review and followed by in-depth interviews with BI practitioners, we identified key BI agility dimensions and developed corresponding scale items. Our findings present a new instrument for assessing BI agility, offering insights for further research and strategies to enhance BI agility in organisations.

Rimvydas Skyrius
Rimvydas Skyrius is a Professor and the head of the Economic Informatics Department at the University of Vilnius, Lithuania. He earned his doctorate in Operations Research and Computer Applications from the ASU-Moscow Institute in 1986, following his Master’s degree from the University of Vilnius in 1978. His primary research areas include IT-based decision support in business and management, business intelligence, and management information needs. His current research focuses on the human and managerial aspects of business intelligence. Professor Skyrius has published several monographs, numerous articles, and conference papers on these topics, and has both co-authored and authored various textbooks in the field.
Justina Valentukevičė
Justina Valentukevičė is a doctoral student and lecturer at Vilnius University. She earned her master’s degree in Management Information Systems from Vilnius University in 2010 and is currently pursuing her PhD at the same institution. Her research centres on the role of Business Intelligence & Analytics technologies in fostering organisational agility and resilience, with a particular focus on the influence of organisational culture. In addition to her academic pursuits, Justina has a diverse professional background in the IT industry, where she has led teams implementing digital and analytics capabilities in medium to large-scale organisations, including the deployment of business intelligence systems.
