Aims and scope

Asian Affairs is focused on the current affairs and recent history of the whole continent of Asia, and neighbouring regions with strong cultural affinities. We publish articles on specific countries, locales, or historical episodes, including social and political perspectives. We are particularly interested in foreign policy, governance, diplomacy, business, and travel related to Asia.

The journal is read by a global audience ranging from academic specialists to those with practical experience and interests in Asia. The journal therefore favours articles of a practical and general character above those that focus on discussions of academic theory or are of a highly technical nature.

Book reviews, including review articles, are a particularly significant feature of each issue. Original articles on any of the areas covered by the journal are welcome and will be considered for peer review. Asian Affairs also publishes articles based on the invited lectures given to the Royal Society for Asian Affairs.

Authors can choose to publish gold open access in this journal.
