Triterpene Saponins from Xeromphis nilotica

Pages 202-206 | Published online: 29 Sep 2008

Abstract

Three triterpenoid saponins were isolated from the bark of Xeromphis nilotica (Rubiaceae). Their structures were established by spectroscopic methods (13 C-NMR, 1 H-NMR and MS) and chemical methods (acetylation, permethylation, acidic and basic hydrolysis). They were identified as: ß-D-glucopyranosyl-(1?3) quinovic acid, 3-0-[0-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-(1?4)-ß-D-glucopyranosyl] pomolic acid, and 3-0-[0-a-L-rhamno-pyranosyl-(1?2) - 0-ß-D- glucopyranosyl-(1?2) - ß-D-glucopyranosyl] oleanolic acid.
