An unusual variant of Microsporum cookei

Abstract

An atypical M. cookei variant isolated from soil in India, was identified as M. canis because of similarity of the macroconidia. When crossed with the mating types of Nannizzia cajetani, the variant formed fertile cleistothecia with the (-) mating type.

Zusammenfassung

Eine atypische Variante von Microsporum cookei, die von Erdboden in Indien isoliert worden war, wurde zunächst als Microsporum canis identifiziert aufgrund der Aehnlichkeit ihrer Makrokonidien mit denjenigen dieser Species. Die Variante ergab jedoch fertile Cleistothecien, wenn sie mit dem Paarungstyp (-) von Nannizzia cajetani gekreuzt wurde.
