Modifications in the ultrastructure of Aspergillus fumigatus due to the presence of living cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Pages 283-286 | Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

Inhibition of hyphal growth in Aspergillus fumigatus due to the presence of living cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa correlates with ultrastructural abnormalities which include plasmolysis, vacuolation and degeneration of organelles. Hyphal cells adjacent to and distant from bacteria are equally affected, indicating translocation of the inhibitor or its diffusion through agar.
