Abstract

For many years the standard tests for ketone bodies in the urine have ken Rothera's and Legal's, using sodium nitroprus-side, and Gerhardt's, in which ferric chloride is employed. These tests are carried out in a number of different ways, and the sensitivity and specificity vary accordingly, rendering difficult the comparison of the findings of different investigators (cf. Nash, Lister & Vobes 1954).
