Abstract
The uptake in red cells of labeled triiodothyronine, added to the plasma, has been studied extensively (Hamolsky 1955, Crispell, Kahana & Hyer 1956, Hamolsky, Stein & Freedberg 1957, Hamolsky, Golodetz & Freedberg 1959, Ureles & Murray 1959, and Robbins 1959). The primary purpose has been to obtain information about the properties of the plasma to bind this hormone in various disorders of the thyroid gland. In such studies, it was noted that the uptake, expressed as the fraction taken up by the cells of the added labeled triiodothyronine, varied with the hematocrit of the sample.
