Platelet Count by Phase Contrast Microscopy –- New Diluting Fluid for Better Visualization

Pages 121-123 | Received 29 Oct 1973, Accepted 29 Jan 1974, Published online: 28 Aug 2009

Abstract

A new diluting fluid is recommended for chamber counting of platelets. This diluting fluid makes the core of the platelets appear jet black and very distinct with phase contrast microscopy. The leucocytes are also well preserved and may easily be counted, whereas the erythrocytes are hemolyzed.
