Abstract

Allyl samarium bromide is prepared by direct reaction of allyl bromide with samarium metal in the presence of a catalytic amount of iodine. This reacts with alkyl selenocyanates to give the corresponding allyl selenides in excellent yields under neutral and mild conditions.
