Abstract

Cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) mediates oxidation of tetraalkylammonium bromide to tetraalkylammonium tribromide in greener reaction conditions using water as solvent. The procedure is simple, convenient, and environmentally benign for the synthesis of tetraalkylammonium tribromide with great yields.
