Abstract

N,N‐Dimethylchlorosulfitemethaniminium chloride (SOCl₂‐DMF) has been found to be an efficient reagent for the one‐pot synthesis of benzimidazoles and benzoxazoles in excellent yield by condensation of carboxylic acids with o‐phenylenediamine/2‐amino‐phenol.
