Hygroline and pseudohygroline: Isolation, biological perspectives and synthesis

Abstract

Hygroline and pseudohygroline are naturally isolated pyrrolidine alkaloids and together exist in 4 different isomeric forms. They are 2-susbstituted pyrrolidine alkaloids with two chiral centers constituting 1, 3-amino alcohol unit. The present article discloses the isolation, biological significance and synthesis of these alkaloids. The various synthetic methods reported from 1943 to 2022 are briefly overviewed in this article. The different types of racemic synthesis and chiral synthesis are separately discussed.
