Abstract

Both thiazole and pyridine are well recognized heterocycles. The fusion of these two heterocycles results in thiazolopyridine ring system, which is the part of a large number of natural and synthetic products. Thiazolopyridine derivatives have significant biological and pharmaceutical importance such as anti-hypertensive, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, anti-mitotic, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, analgesic, tuberculostatic and herbicidal. Various thiazolopyridine derivatives have found their applications in semiconductor and photographic materials. A large variety of synthetic methods have been employed for the facile synthesis of thiazolopyridine derivatives. This review article focuses on the synthesis of five isomeric thiazolopyridine systems.
