The Efficient Preparation and Diels-Alder Reactions of 1,2-Bis[methylthio]-1, 3-Butadiene

Abstract

The base catalyzed rearrangements of 1,4 bis-heteroatom substituted 3-butynes have been extensively studied by Brandsma, et al. ^2,3 Frequently, complex mixtures of products have been obtained. We wish to report an efficient, selective preparation of 1,2-bis(methylthio)-1, 3-butadiene 1 and its use in two Diels-Alder reactions.
