Abstract

Although indol-2(3H)-ones possess a wide range of pharmacological1 and microbiological2 activities, the corresponding azaindol-2(3H)-ones have stimulated little interest. Successful syntheses have been reported for the title compounds3,4 involving several stages which in our hands gave a variety of side products, especially in the hydrogenation stage.
