Synthesis of Steroidal Thloethers

Abstract

Recently some thioethers have been synthesized and tested for antiinflammatory, neurotropic, bactericidal, fungicidal, anticholesteremic and hypolipemic activities^1–4. Few thioethers were also reported as tranquilizers⁵. Steroidal thioethers were used to assay steroidal harmones using radioimmunoassay technique⁶. These physiological observations prompted us to undertake the synthesis of isomeric steroidal thioethers (III-VI). These compounds were obtained in excellent yield and were characterized on the basis of their spectral properties.
