Abstract
The best method for the preparation of 3-bromothiophene, an important starting material for a variety of 3-substituted thiophenes,1 is bromination-debromination of thiophene,2 although good alternative routes to 3-bromothiophene have been described.3 We wish to report a convenient modification of the former method that is also applicable to 2- and 3-methylthiophene and selenophene.
