Abstract

The one electron electrochemical reduction of α,β-unsaturated ketones² is a useful method of establishing carbon to carbon bonds. For example³, it has been utilized in an intramolecular coupling to generate the perhydrophenanthrene ring system in the reduction of 1 to 2:
