Abstract
Having some interest in the reductive dimerization of Schiff bases, 1, to substituted 1,2-bisanilinoethanes1, 2, the recent report2 describing the use of zinc dust to effect this reaction caught our attention. In particular, the dimeric products were reported to have sharp melting points implying that in each case only one of the two possible diastereomeric dimers was formed.
