Abstract

The synthesis of crown ethers incorporating tartaric acid units has been systematically examined. The optimum sytheses utilize oligoethylene glycol ditosylates, the bis-dimethylamide of tartaric acid, and sodium hydride as the base. The reaction conditions preserve the chiral centers.
