Abstract

1,3-Diphenylpropan-1-one (1) undergoes a base-mediated dimerisation to diastereomerically pure 2-benzyl-1,3,5-triphenyl-pentan-1,5-dione (3) when treated with lithium bases and with potassium hydride.
