Abstract
The reaction of esters as well as N,N-disubstituted amides of 2-oxo = 2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxylic acid with nitromethane in the presence of potassium fluoride leads to the corresponding diesters and ester -amides of 2-carboxy-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-4-ni trobutyric acid (2a-m). The configuration and preferable conformation of the ester-amides are discussed.
