Abstract

This Communication describes a convenient procedure for the preparation of pure 3,4-epoxyisoprene (1). Reaction of methacrolein with the ylide prepared by reaction of trimethylsulphonium methanesulphonate with powdered sodium hydroxide suspended in dichloromethane furnishes pure material after simple distillation.
