Acylation of Butylthio or Phenylthio Cycloalkenes. Catalysis by Aluminium Exchanged Clay

Abstract

Thiobutyl or thiophenylcycloalkenes were acylated by acetyl or benzoyl chloride in the presence of aluminium trichloride. Aluminium exchanged montmorillonite catalysed the reaction and gave a better yield than with a stoechiometric quantity of aluminium trichloride.
