Abstract

17-Ketosteroids in the 13α-methyl-gon-9(11)-ene series almost exclusively undergo nucleophilic attack from the α-face. Intramolecular capture of a cyclopropyl carbinyl cation, generated under Mitsunobu conditions unequivocally confirms the stereochemical course.
