Easy Access to Cyclopentanoid Structures. 21 Transposition of Tricyclo[m.n.0.02,m+1]alca-2,3,m+2-triol Derivatives

Abstract

A new and expeditious synthesis of polycyclic hydroxycyclopentenones 4 is described. Thus diols coming from bis-hydroxylation of methylene cyclobutanols easily obtained from 1-chlorocyclenes, were transposed into 4 under Swern oxidation conditions followed if necessary by the basic treatment of the keto hydroxy ester formed.
