Abstract
8-Methoxy-2-tetralone (6) can be easily prepared in approximately 50% overall yield starting from 2-bromophenylacetic acid (1), utilizing a Friedel-Crafts acylation/cyclization, ketone protection, copper(I)-catalyzed methoxylation of the aromatic bromide in the presence of an ester as a co-catalyst, and ketone deprotection.
