Abstract
Selective ketalization of 13β-ethyl-gona-4-ene-3,11,17-trione (1) using chlorotrimethylsilane as catalyst afforded 13β-ethyl-gona-5-ene-3,11,17-trione-3-ethylene ketal (2) in fairly high yield. The corresponding 3,17-diethylene ketal (3) was obtained in 70% yield when p-toluenesulfonic acid was used as catalyst.
