Abstract
25,27-Dihydroxy-26, 28-dimethoxycalix[4]arene (1) can be selectively chlcromethylated at the para position of the phenol rings to give 11, 23-di (chloromethyl)-25, 27-dihydroxy-26, 28-dimethoxycalix[4] arene (2) in excellent yield. 2 react easily with alcohols, phenols, or mercaptan to give the nucleophilic substitution products 6 in good to excellent yields.
