Synthesis and Mass Spectral Data of four Potential Biomarkers Related to the C₁₉Tricyclanes Found in Australian Oils and Puget Sound Sediments

Abstract

The synthesis of four potential biomarkers, 13α-, 13β, 14α- and 14β-ethyl-8β(H)-podocarpane is reported. GC-MS comparison with an Australian oil C₁₉ tricyclane and the mass spectra of two Puget Sound C₁₉-terpanes evidenced non-identity of the synthetic compounds with the natural products; thus, proposed structures should be revised.
