Abstract

Abstract: Sodium hydride of nanometric size exhibits high reactivity for the reductive dehalogenation of aryl halides in the presence of a catalytic amount of lanthanide chloride or a mixture of lanthanide chloride and transition metal chloride. The catalytic activities of lanthanide chlorides decrease with increasing atomic number of the rare earth elements. The combination of ytterbium chloride and a transition metal chloride shows remarkable synergic effect in the reductive dehalogenation of aryl halides.
