Abstract

Aldehyde N, N-dimethylhydrazones undergoes facile oxidative cleavage to nitriles on reaction with DMS and K₂CO₃ in quantitative yields. Nitriles can also be easily obtained in high yields in a “one-pot” process starting from the corresponding aldehydes.
