Mono-Alkylation of Diols Through Ruthenium-Catalyzed Reaction with Homoallyl Alcohols

Abstract

Under the catalysis of RuCl2(PPh3)3, a variety of diols reacted with homoallylic alcohols, generating mono-allyl ethers. Di-, tri-, and tetra-(ethylene glycols) all reacted to give mono ethers. Under the same conditions, primary hydroxyl groups reacted preferentially over secondary ones.
