Abstract

BiCl3 was found to be an effective reagent for an improved chlorination of alcohols and for a convenient halogen exchange reaction.

Notes

In the presence of BiBr3, benzylic alcohols were quantitatively converted after a 15 mn reaction at 25°C and corresponding ethers were formed9
