Abstract

Selective and high-yielding synthesis of alcohols can be easily achieved by the reduction of a variety of ketones and aldehydes with a combination of inexpensive and readily available laboratory reagents, NaBH₄ and silica gel, in hexane under mild and neutral conditions.
