Some techniques for computer-based assessment in medical education

Pages 560-566 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

Computer-based assessment techniques are commonly used in medical education. However, the most common format, multiple-choice questions, can become repetitive, monotonous and limited in educational scope. This paper presents a system of classification for describing computer-based assessment techniques based on the level of interaction and educational activity they offer. Ten computer-based assessment techniques for medical education are illustrated and their educational value discussed.
