An induction programme for first-appointment overseas doctors

Pages 473-475 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

The NHS provides training posts for many overseas doctors but job induction programmes usually assume the participants are UK graduates. The 'Orange Book' guidelines on Visiting Specialist Registrar training make job induction an important component of entry to the grade. This paper describes the constituents and outcomes of a pilot programme for overseas doctors starting their first appointment in the UK. This experience may prove useful to other countries that recruit foreign medical graduates.
