Abstract

Chad is currently facing a deficit in electricity supply, a low rate of access to electricity and above all, a high cost of the kilowatt-hour due to the heavy dependence on fossil fuels, the lack of interconnection with neighbouring countries and low integration of renewable energies in electricity production. The present paper aims to evaluate the wind energy potential of Chad using thirteen commonly used methods to determine the Weibull parameters. A period of 31 years was used to collect the wind speed data of the 23 regions of Chad. The statistical analysis was performed through the computation of the coefficient of determination, the root mean square error and chi-square test. The wind energy of Chad was found to be of class 3 of the power classification for one region (Faya-largeau), class 2 for two regions (Amdjarass and Fada) and class 1 for the other regions.
