Brain abscess decades after a penetrating shrapnel injury

Abstract

We describe a patient who developed a brain absess 52 yeats after sustaining a penetrating craniocerebral shrapnel injury. For 10 years he had suffered from Diabetes mellitus, a disorder known to predispose to infections from a diminished body defence. The treatment and aetiology of this rare occurence is discussed.
