Summary
On a sample of the population of mixed African ancestry living in Bluefields, Nicaragua, the pattern of migration and the distribution of red cell and serum genetic markers have been studied. It is concluded that, in spite of a considerable level of internal and external migration, a distinctive genetic structure is maintained by the population. Moreover, a strongly negative assortative mating can be observed between people inhabiting the western and eastern areas of Nicaragua. It is estimated that most, if not all, of the genetic pool of the population is accounted for by a process of admixture between African and Indian peoples.
Zusammenfassung
Bei einer Stichprobe der Bevölkerung von gemischtem afrikanischen Ursprung in Bluefields in Nicaragua wurde das Wanderverhalten und die Verteilung von Markern der Erythrozyten und des Serums untersucht. Es wird geschlossen, daßtrotz eines beträchtlichen Ausmaßes innerer und äußerer Wanderung eine erkennbare genetische Struktur in der Bevölkerung beibehalten wird. Weiterhin kann eine stark negative Heiratssiebung zwischen den Menschen beobachtet werden, die die westlichen und östlichen Regionen von Nicaragua bewohnen. Es wird geschätzt, daß der größte Teil, falls nicht der gesamte genetische Pool der Bevölkerung, auf einen Prozeß der Mischung zwischen afrikanischen und indianischen Völkern zurückzuführen ist.
Résumé
On a étudié le modèle de migration et de distribution des marqueurs génétiques érythrocytaires et sériques dans un échantillon d'une population d'origine africaine composite et vivant à Bluefields, Nicaragua. On en a conclu que malgré une niveau considérable de migration interne et externe, la population maintient une structure génétique distincte. De plus, on peut observer un assortiment matrimonial fortement négatif entre les gens habitant les régions de l'ouest de l'est du Nicaragua. On peut estimer que la plus grande partie sinon tout le patrimoine génétique de la population, peut étre expliqué par un processus de métissage entre les africains et les indiens.
