Abstract

Since March 1995, the Institute of Group Analysis, Norway has been responsible for a block-training programme in group psychotherapy in Vilnius, Lithuania. Training takes place in English during five weekends per year, with participants from all three Baltic countries. There are three levels: one year basic course, two years advanced course and two years qualifying course. Elements in the training are self-experience in small and large groups, supervision and theory discussions. The plan is to educate local staff, who can then train colleagues on an independent basis. Evaluations show a high degree of satisfaction with the different elements of the course, and an initial honeymoon attitude has given way to a more realistic realization of what is required of a personal and professional commitment. Experiences from the first three years of training are presented.
