Abstract
The present case study describes a 5-month follow-up of five severely disturbed preadolescents with a comorbid diagnosis treated with citalopram or fluoxetine. The outcome was evaluated with the Child Behavior Checklist and the Clinical Global Impressions Scale. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment was clearly effective in three of five cases. All these cases had a diagnosis of major depressive disorder. Only mild untoward effects, which were transient, were reported in two cases.
