Gillian Dooley
Gillian Dooley is an Honorary Associate Professor in English literature at Flinders University in South Australia. Her research interests include the works of Jane Austen, Iris Murdoch, V.S. Naipaul, and J.M. Coetzee, as well as the life and work of maritime explorer Matthew Flinders, and she has published a number of books and essays on these topics. She is also a musician and often researches and writes about the links between music and literature. A large project, completed in 2021, was the detailed indexing of the contents of Jane Austen’s music collection for the University of Southampton Library catalogue. Her most recent books are Matthew Flinders: The Man Behind the Map (Wakefield Press) and Iris Murdoch: Music, Sounds, and Silences (Palgrave Macmillan), both published in 2022, and She Played and Sang: Jane Austen and Music is due out from Manchester University Press in 2024.
