Digital roadmapping in the pandemic: lessons from collaboration in the glass industry

ABSTRACT

Roadmapping is a widely known methodology to aid technological planning within organizations, and its use has been extended to inter-organizational collaborative contexts. During the pandemic, teams were compelled to work remotely and adapt to this new reality. This article brings a case study of a collaborative digital roadmap developed for the Brazilian glass industry, including workshops and tools. As a result, it was possible to investigate the digital roadmapping process and how it affects collaborative applications.

Isabela Neto Piccirillo Piccirillo is a PhD candidate at the Department of Production Engineering, São Carlos School of Engineering, University of São Paulo, Brazil. She has bachelor's degree in production Engineering at Maringá State University (UEM) and MSc in production engineering at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Her research interests include new product development, blockchain technology, innovation strategies, technology roadmapping and other innovation management fields.

Daniel Capaldo Amaral

Daniel Capaldo Amaral is a professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and has a PhD degree in product development management. His research interest areas include methods and tools for product development and innovation management, especially those related to project management.

Maicon Gouveia de Oliveira

Maicon Gouveia de Oliveira is a professor in strategic innovation management at the Institute of Science and Technology, Federal University of Alfenas, Brazil. He has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a PhD in production engineering from University of São Paulo (USP), and a post-doctorate from the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge. His areas of interest are strategic innovation management, roadmapping, digitalisation of innovation management and servitization.

Eduardo Bellini Ferreira

Eduardo Bellini Ferreira is a professor in the Materials Engineering Department, Engineering School of São Carlos, University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He has a bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering; an MSc, a PhD and a Post-doc in Materials Science and Engineering at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). He is a principal investigator and the Technology Transfer Coordinator at the Center for Research, Technology and Education in Vitreous Materials (CeRTEV/FAPESP), and a member of the Glass Commission of the Brazilian Ceramic Association (ABCeram). Research interests in glass and glass-ceramics materials, glass sintering, glass-forming ability, glass crystallization, and manufacture and applications of glass and glass-ceramic products.
