Variability in the Oxygen Effect Observed with Micro-organisms.

Part I. Haploid Yeast: Single and Budding Cells

Pages 414-419 | Received 16 Sep 1959, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

When freshly harvested haploid yeast is exposed to x-rays or 8 mev electrons, the oxygen-enhancement ratio is twice as high for the sensitive single cells as it is for the more resistant budding cells. It may be inferred that the principal targets for lethal damage are different in the two types of cell.
