The Kinetics of X-ray Survival of Mammalian Cells in Vitro

Pages 133-145 | Received 30 Oct 1961, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

The shapes of the x-ray survival-curves of two tissue-cultured mammalian cell-lines have been studied, using machine methods for data fitting. It was found that the survival data fit a ‘multi-process’ cell-killing model better than the ‘single-process’ model proposed by other workers. In addition, the effects of the mode of plating and the time of irradiation were studied. Although both affect the sensitivity of the cells, no effect on the shapes of the survival-curves was demonstrated.
