Movement of 137Cs across Surviving Intestinal Segments in Vitro

&
Pages 507-511 | Received 11 Feb 1963, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

A net transfer of caesium-137 from the mucosal to the serosal side of surviving intestinal segments did not occur when in vitro procedures were used. However, a net transfer of 137Cs occurred from the serosa to the mucosa, suggesting the presence of a mechanism for the transfer of 137Cs in this direction. The importance of this mechanism is not known.
