Oscillo-polarographic Studies of the Effects of γ-radiation on Adenine in Aqueous Solution

Summary

γ-radiation-induced reactions of dilute aqueous solutions of adenine have been studied by means of oscillo-polarographic methods. In the presence of oxygen the formation of a coloured product was observed, whereas under anaerobic conditions formamidopyrimidines were found to be the main reaction product. A mechanism for the radiolysis of adenine in aqueous solutions has been proposed.
