Benzoyl-glycine Conjugation after Whole-body Irradiation

&
Pages 427-435 | Received 29 Apr 1968, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

Urinary excretion of benzoyl-glycine was increased after whole-body gamma-irradiation of rats, sheep and pigs maintained on a constant daily food intake. The increase occurred in the rat and sheep in the third and fourth week, and in the pig in the third to sixth weeks. In rats submitted to audiogenic stress there was no increased excretion of benzoyl-glycine. Creatinine excretion was not changed after whole-body irradiation or stress in the three species. Uric acid output was decreased in the rat between days 3 and 10 after irradiation or after stress, and for the pig and sheep between days 1 and 7 after irradiation. The data are indicative of changes produced by ionizing radiation in the conjugation of glycine with benzoic acid.
